Sailing Biography: Capt. Michael Mosser

I found my love of the sea, and to that which floats above and which lives beneath, growing up on the waters of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I was enrolled at an early age in the Stage Harbor Yacht Club Sailing School in Chatham, MA, where I learned to sail a variety of small boats. These early lessons into the physics of sailing and the encouraged observation of the weather helped inspire me to teach sailing. I became an Instructor In Training at the age of twelve and a full-time Instructor at the age of fourteen. I continued to teach children and adults how to sail for the next eight years. While working for the Stage Harbor Sailing School, I also had many opportunities to crew aboard larger sailing- and motoryachts on deliveries along the east coast of the United States. It was during this time that I earned my U.S.C.G. 50 ton Masters License, Assistance Towing Endorsement, Marine Radio Operators Permit,as well as my F.A.A. Private Pilots License.

I left the ocean for four years to study biology at the College of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. When I was not involved with my studies, or camping in the surrounding mountains, I spent my time working on, and flying, light aircraft in the gorgeous south west.

However, the sounds, aromas, motion and adventure offered by a life near the sea drew me back. After a year spent running an 80 foot topsail schooner in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a 40’ sailing catamaran used for charter and instruction in Seattle, Washington, I returned to the east coast in 2003.

I have worked in Annapolis as a full-time yacht delivery captain for the last five years. My delivery experience includes sail- and motoryachts from 35 to 70 foot, and everything in between. I have logged many thousands of offshore miles and know the various inlets and coastlines of the Eastern seaboard and Caribbean intimately. When I am not involved with deliveries I work for the local SeaTow company in Annapolis.

From northern Maine to as far south as St. Lucia in the West Indies I have witnessed the beauty, but also the potential danger that the ocean can provide. Ensuring a successful and timely delivery of your vessel and the safety of personnel and property is my absolute priority. Cooperation, communication and education encompass the safe and fun experience onboard any vessel I deliver. A sober, smoke free, clean and comfortable environment is always encouraged on each of my deliveries.
